Ironman Louisville 2011

This is our 900th post!!! That's a lot of updates!

This past weekend Jason and I went to Louisville, KY to watch my dad and Sean do the Ironman. Mary came down to stay at the house with the kids and fortunately Hurricane Irene just brought some much needed rain to our area and no real damage.

We arrived Saturday afternoon and after lunch hung out in their hotel room for a bit. Nice food selection huh?

Sean getting his bags ready, although it looks like he is sorting Halloween candy... His method of preparation was pretty humorous!

The conversations between these two were also pretty funny!

Dropping off bikes and gear bags.

That's a lot of money in there!

Ready to race!

This will be a welcome sight after 140.6 miles of racing!

Race day started early and after a few last minute checks on the bikes, we were off to the swim start.

Relaxing for a bit.

Getting closer to the start.

A few last minute words of encouragement :)

And they're off!

I love this shirt - so true!

Sean headed out on the bike. This "cool move" caused most of what was in his front water bottle to spill out all over his bike!

Dad headed out on the bike - with a smile!

It's hard to get a good picture of someone flying by on the bike! But here goes dad - looking good and still smiling!

Sean, always being goofy...
As Sean headed out on the run he realized he forgot to take his bike shorts off, so he handed them to me as he passed. Thanks??? Luckily he did have tri shorts on underneath!

Dad looking good on the run!

Now here is dedication - barely a week post-shoulder surgery, my mom was there cheering the boys on every step of the way, without a single complaint. She's awesome!

Sean placing his order on what he wants to eat after the race...

Looking good with those finisher medals! It was a great race and Jason and I were so happy to be there and be a part of it. But we don't want to be spectators much longer :)

Mary had a great time with the kids and I know they had a lot of fun with her to. Thanks so much for making the trip down!

Makayla's day

Makayla and I had dentist appointments Friday morning (Mary came down Thursday afternoon so Conner was able to stay home with her). She sat on my lap and asked about 67 questions during my cleaning. Then it was her turn. They thought they would try x-rays, but said usually the three year olds don't sit still and cooperate well enough...
Vest on and ready...
Listening carefully...

And checking out her perfect pictures. She did great! The hygienist was VERY impressed and said they have never had a three year old cooperate so well!

She enjoying getting to hold Mr. Thirsty during her cleaning.
Just chillin!

Since she did so well, she was able to get a chocolate shake at McDonalds (she did ask the dentist if she could have a lollipop!) The shakes sure have gotten fancier than what I remember!

Then she got a hair cut. She looks so grown up at the salon with her special drink!

After that, we shopped at Wal Mart, visited Jason at work and brought him a drink, picked up a few things at Target, then brought lunch home for us and Mary and Conner. Whew - what a busy morning!

Earthquake!

Yesterday we did experience a fairly significant and very rare earthquake in Virginia. I am thankful that there was not any significant injuries or damage, and that we can laugh about it now. This picture was posted by many people on Facebook and too funny not to share!

Summer fun

We enjoyed a fun weekend outside. Conner loved to climb in and take a ride in the big red car!
Makayla was thrilled to be playing in the sand (note the moveable shade!)

It didn't take long for Conner to come over and be near his big sister. And he wasn't eating sand by the fistfulls! He did manage to get himself pretty well covered and needed a bath before nap!

Kona had been barking like crazy and when I looked out to see what he was barking at, this is what I saw - a big turtle hiding out under Jason's car!

This guy was not friendly and not happy that Jason removed him from his shade spot. Jason let him go up in the woods near a little swampy area. Hopefully he stays up there...

Our last trip to the pool this summer :( It seems like the summer went by so fast!

Busy busy!

On Sunday the kids, Kona and I loaded up and headed south to Marion. On Monday we stopped by the Wellness Center where everyone was amazed at how big the kids were getting, then we enjoyed a little swim. Conner loved playing with the ball and floating on his own.
Fun with Grandma!

Makayla being a silly goose!

I was hoping she would show off all that she learned at swim lessons but she preferred to hang out on the steps most of the time.

After lunch with my mom, we continued our drive south to Colleen's house. Erin, Sean and Kristen were also able to come up and it was really nice to spend some time together. Colleen cooked a fabulous dinner for all of us and then of course we had to get some pictures together! We tried to think of all the possible combinations there were so that when we left, no one would say, "oh we should have taken one with ___"

The whole gang.

The kids with the kids.

Being silly - this was no problem for Sean and Makayla!

A nice picture of the 4 of us??? You may be seeing this one again in the Christmas card...

So cute!

The girls

The girls with the princess :)

It didn't take long before things started getting goofy...

Conner was worn out and ready for sleep!

The next morning he was cozy in the big chair.

After lunch at Colleen's, we loaded back up to start the trip home. We stayed in Marion again Tuesday night then finished the drive Wednesday. Makayla loved checking out the horses and kept saying she wanted to pet them and feed them, but never really got enough courage to do it. Maybe next time...

The drive back on Wednesday took a little longer than we would have liked (bad accident on 81) but the trip was totally worth it! We loved being able to see everyone!
