Friday night fun

Back when we were younger, Friday nights meant heading to a bar and then a club or two. After we were married, Friday nights were dinner and a movie. Now Friday nights are spent watching Makayla play and going to sleep soon after she does!

She got more bath toys for her birthday...(thanks Great Aunt Judy!)
She likes to take them all out of the little bag and lay them neatly on the floor.

Then she starts to pick them up-
and put them all back in the bag!

Then she takes them out again.... about 10 more times!

Loving her chair!

Makayla spends a lot of time climbing in and out of her chair and playing with her toys!

A New Feature

Sorry everyone, no new pictures of Makayla tonight... We have been running around like crazy the past few days and I don't even think of grabbing my camera until she is asleep! I will try and get some new pictures up tomorrow...
I did add a cool feature though. Check out the map on the right. When you check our blog, a little dot will show up with the location. Don't worry, none of your personal information will be shared through this, but I think it will be cool to see how world famous Makayla is!

A Relaxing Weekend

Yeah right! I've come to the conclusion that we are not capable of having a relaxing weekend. We do have a lot of fun though and this weekend was another fun one. We loaded up and headed to New York Friday after work to visit Jason's family and do some skiing. The drive went well and Makayla was great in the car. After a late arrival, we got a few hours of sleep until Makayla was up and ready to play Saturday morning. We spent the afternoon at Willard Mountain where Jason was able to get his skiing fix and I was successful at not getting hurt! After a few family pics, Makayla headed back to the house with Grandma and Grandpa. The weather was perfect and Jason and I had a great time. Saturday night was a wonderful feast and a great get-together with lots of the family. Before we knew it, it was Sunday morning and time to load up and head back home!
Another candidate for this year's holiday card?

With all my cool skiing gear - I almost look like I know what I am doing!

A view from the top of the mountain. Jason when straight down this way, I took a much more scenic route.

Makayla enjoyed hanging out with everyone Saturday night.

All bundled up and ready for the ride home!

Fun on the playset

Unfortunately, Makayla caught the icky tummy bug that has been going around her day care. But fortunately, she was feeling pretty good today so we were able to enjoy another fun day at home! We did lots of fun stuff - we took all of the cushions off the couch for her to climb on (but mainly she just looked at me like I was crazy), we slept, ate of course, played with play dough, went to Target, and played on her playset. It was a pretty good sick day!

I can do it....
Almost there...

Ok, I'm up here, now what?

This is about as high as she will get on her own. If I hold her hands, she will stand up but is very cautious - which is just fine for now!

Another fun day at home

Makayla and I enjoyed another day at home thanks to President's Day! Since no one was feeling good for most of the weekend, we spent most of today cleaning and doing laundry. I also decided it was time to do something about Makayla's hair and since I am not ready to attempt to cut it yet, a little barrette will have to do. I was shocked that she didn't touch it all day!

Happy Valentine's Day

Friday morning Makayla was dressed in her cute Valentine's Day outfit. I tried several times to get a good picture of her but this was the best I got - a pose next to the trash can!
Friday afternoon - she actually sat in one place and watched about 10 minutes of a baby einstein DVD! She was also not feeling very well which may have been why she wasn't tearing apart the living room like usual.
Saturday morning - today she is feeling a little better and back to playing with all of her toys!

Makayla's First Year

Thanks to the suggestion from a friend (thanks Karen!) I found this amazing website and was able to make a slideshow with the highlights from most of Makayla's First Year. We played this at her party so that is why her party pictures are not included. I had a great time making the show and it was pretty easy. Take a look when you have some time - it is a little over 30 minutes long, and make sure you have the sound turned on!

A fun day in the big city

Today was another beautiful day - in the mid 60s! We decided to load up and head into Washington DC to start doing some of the things we keep talking about.

First stop, Dunkin Donuts of course!!! Makayla is in awe.
Then she decides to take a bite of her kitty!
We drove to Erin and William's apartment and parked there. Erin joined us and we took the Metro into the city. Makayla was very curious with the new surroundings and kept everyone amused on the Metro.
The weather was perfect and it was great to see so many people out enjoying the sunshine. Quick pause for a family photo in front of the Washington Monument.

The next stop was the Natural History Museum.
Makayla's favorite part - the fish of course!
She loved looking at all of the animals. Here they are looking at a big tiger!
Nice kitty....
She also liked to touch everything.
A view of the ocean exhibit.

That's a big elephant!

Makayla wasn't as interested in the sights outside, but she was glad that I packed cheerios for her!
A view of the WWII Memorial and Lincoln Memorial from the Washington Monument.
Looking the other way, a view of the capital building.
"That's enough excitement for one day, I'm ready to go home now!"

1 year check up

Makayla had her one year check up yesterday afternoon and everything went great. The tubes in her ears are looking good and I heard something that I haven't heard from a doctor in a long time - "her ears look good, no fluid and no infection!" She is now 30 inches long and 20 pounds. She hasn't gained much weight since her 9 month check up but the doctor asked if she was very active. When I replied that active was an understatement, she said not to worry about the weight. Who would have thought that I would have a skinny kid??? The rest of the appointment went well and she recovered quickly after the two shots. Next appointment is at 15 months and we can hope that will be the next time we go to the doctor!

So many fun toys, where do I begin???

Eat up!

Makayla loves to eat! I gave her a few veggie sticks (they are like puffs but supposed to be healthy) while I got the rest of her dinner ready. She had been eating the sticks one at a time but today, she must have thought someone was going to steal them because she grabbed them all and shoved half of them in her mouth!

On another note....I think Makayla may be a future water bug! While taking a bath tonight, she leaned over and blew bubbles - twice. I watched to make sure she wasn't just sucking in water and she wasn't - she was really blowing bubbles!!! I thought that was pretty amazing since we had never showed her that, she just did it on her own. I leaned into the tub (go ahead, laugh at that picture in your mind) and showed her, then she did it a few more times and seemed so proud of herself. I remember spending many swim lessons with kids much older to try and get them to do the same thing!

After a long, hard day....

Makayla likes to take off her shoes and kick back in her chair!

A few more from the weekend

After everyone left yesterday (sad), Makayla took about a 3 hour nap. When she woke up, she was ready to play with all of her new toys!

She is very interested in books and likes to take them out of the basket. She doesn't seem to like putting them back in as much...
Front facing car seat!!! Now that she is one and meets the weight requirement, we were able to turn her car seat around. She was a little confused at first but seemed to really like the new view!

She knows what to do with a cup cake now! She also got to have whole milk for the first time yesterday. I think we were more excited about this big event because it means no more formula and we will have whole milk for our coffee!

Makayla's Birthday Party

Makayla's Party 2/1/09

This weekend was great - the only bad thing was that it went by too fast! To make it last a little longer, here is a slideshow recapping the party! (Click on the picture)
Thank you to everyone who made it, and to those who sent their wishes from a distance. Jason and I really appreciate all the help and support you have given us to make this first year so special for Makayla.
