Books and bubbles

We started today by going to the library for "Toddler Storytime." Today was fish theme and the leader did a great job keeping everyone interested. There were a few songs, a few things to get up and move around to, and of course a few books - all about fish! Makayla stuck by me for the first few minutes but as you can see, it didn't take long for her to get right in the middle of everything!
Here she is showing off her dance moves! There were some motions that went with the song but Makayla preferred to make up her own.
After a delicious Chick-Fil-A lunch and long nap, we headed outside to play. Makayla showed Mary and Ed all the cool things that her water table could do. Then Ed did a great job blowing bubbles which kept both Kona and Makayla very entertained!
After all that running around, it was time for a popsicle! I think Kona wanted one too...

Weekend Fun

House Update: Not much different on the outside, although you can see the outside lights are up. All of the interior lights are in and so are the coverings on all the outlets and light switches. They have also started grading the yard!

Now onto the pictures everyone really wants to see - Makayla! Where was this toy when we were kids - a ball that connects to the hose and squirts water! If you turn the water on really hard, the ball moves all over the place!
Makayla preferred the gentle spray of the water rather than the ball flying around.
After the excitement of the ball wore off, I brought out the bubbles. Both Kona and Makayla loved to chase them all over the yard!

"What do you mean I don't get anymore ice cream???"

Mary and Ed arrived this afternoon and Makayla immediately started calling Ed "PaPa." I guess that's what he will be called! Don't worry dad, we are still working on PeePaw for you :)

I love the summer!!!

Makayla and I had another great day today. We started by going to the gym where they have a child care room for Makayla to play in while I work out. I guess she got a work out too because she fell asleep while eating lunch!

After a nap (I did wake her up to move her from her high chair to her crib), I set up her new water table. She loved it and played with the water for about an hour!

While she played in the shade, I tried to get a little tan so I don't burst into flames when we go to the beach. Every time I got out of the chair, she ran over to steal my seat!

We ended our fun in the sun with popsicles. Makayla wore most of hers so it was straight to a bath after this!

Water day

Today I helped Erin pack everything up in her classroom so Makayla went to daycare for one more day. And lucky for her - today was water day!!! All the kids wore their swimsuits to school and from what I heard, they all had a great time. There was a water table and lots of things to pick up and dump water, squirting things, floaties, a sprinkler and a few other water toys. Her teachers said Makayla loved to play in the sprinkler the most. Sounds like a fun day!

Posing for a quick pic in her new swimsuit.
Looking good!

The gymnastics star!

One of the things I was really looking forward to this summer was to do a class with Makayla. Today was our first day of gymnastics (more like free play on mats) and Makayla loved it! There were 5 kids in the class, Makayla was the oldest and the rest were between 10 and 12 months (the next class starts at 19 months). The instructor was great getting everyone involved - including the parents! I hope the skills don't get too challenging or Makayla might be embarrassed to be with me!

Shoes off and ready to go!
She was actually sitting still and listening to the instructor!!! Why doesn't she sit still and listen to me?
During "explore time" Makayla found this tunnel which she loved crawling in and out of.
"Mom, do you have to take a picture of everything I do?" Of course!
So many fun things to explore!

The instructor brought out a big trash can full of balls. Makayla was very excited!
The class finished with bubbles. Makayla loved to follow them and then pop them in the air.
And the best part of all, she slept the whole way home, woke up just long enough to eat lunch, then took a three hour nap!

School's out!

While I love my job as a teacher, I am so excited that I get to be a full time mommy for the next two months!!! It's going to be a great (and busy) summer!

A Happy Father's Day

Before we get to our Father's Day festivities, here is something you hope to never see - the inside of your TV!

Luckily the repair guy was able to come out and get it fixed Saturday so we could all show off our skills (or lack of) with Rock Band.

Father's Day breakfast. Be sure to check out the special hat that Makayla made for Jason to wear :)

The daddies and their kids.

For Father's Day, Makayla wanted all of us to go to a baseball game. With my help, we got tickets for the D.C. Nationals game this afternoon. The weather was perfect and it was a lot of fun. Makayla did pretty good sitting on laps or standing right in front of us. I think she was disappointed when we heard kids had to be 4 years old to run the bases after the game. I think she would have been great at that!
A family photo with Makayla looking the right direction - better get a frame for this one!
Erin and William also joined us for the game. Erin did a triathlon in the morning and got second in her age group!!!

We hope everyone had a Happy Father's Day!

Happy day

Good morning!

Matt, Meghan and Warren arrived last night. Makayla is very curious about Warren but is a little more tolerant when Jason or I hold Warren. When he was put on the blanket, Makayla went over and laid down next to him. Of course, this was a true Kodak Moment!
The cousins checking each other out and Makayla giving a little hug.
Sharing a story :)
House update: other than the siding being completed, there aren't too many other changes to the outside. The shutters and front door will be painted a burgandy color. On the inside, all the doors have been hung, baseboard and windowsills are done, and the first coat of paint is done. It's looking good!

Fun weekend

Saturday afternoon we went to a party at my school. I told my students I would bring Makayla so they could meet her and I think lots of them came just for that!
It was nice to show Jason and Makayla my classroom. Makayla even wrote my class a little message - they were very jealous that I let her write on the board!
Sunday was a beautiful day. We went for a bike ride in the morning and then Makayla got to play with her water duck in the afternoon. At first she was a little weary...
But that soon changed!
This is the perfect picture of summer :)
Popsicles - yum!!!

House Update

Our house is moving along and our cabinets have been installed. Siding is in progress and the garage doors are done. On Monday, they measure for our countertops. Hopefully grading will start soon to get rid of the moon like terrain.

Our kitchen cabinets are in. A view of the breakfast nook and kitchen from the family room. I am standing in front of our fireplace.
Amy's double oven goes on the left and the refrigerator in the center.

Soon there will be a countertop and sink to go with this view of the backyard. I guess we will have to keep the cabinet neat behind those glass doors.

A view of the back yard through the dining room while standing in the office (well, technically the living room but we will use it as an office).

A view of the office and front yard beyond from the dining room. The kitchen is to the left.

The entry way and view of the stairs heading to the second floor.
Our master bedroom with closet to the right.
Master bathroom vanity.

Master bathroom corner tub and shower stall. We'll be buying blinds.

Bedroom number 2, probably for Spaz.
The hall bathroom.

Bedroom number 3, our guest room.

Bedroom number 4, Makayla's room.

The basement. Storage and someday, a finished play room. The entry door helps bring in lots of light.

Our house from the top of our back yard. Nice shot of the siding and wrought iron railings at the basement entry way.
