Off to the hospital!!!!
After 9+ months of waiting (or has it been 17?), I can't believe this day is finally here - Jason and I are going to be parents! I think we both feel every possible emotion right now: scared, nervous, happy, anxious, calm and excited all at once. And a little tired since neither of us slept real well last night (but I'm sure that won't be our last sleepless night!) We'll post the good news soon!

The waiting game is almost over!
Even though there is no baby yet, there will be soon! We saw the doctor again today and again, not much is going on. But since this Thursday is 41 weeks, he suggested we induce then. We made an appointment for 9:00 a.m. on Thursday and hopefully we will be able to share the big news soon after that! Of course the doctor did remind us that even though I will be induced, there is still no guarantee that she will be here Thursday....

The waiting game continues...
The past few days have been filled with some excitement and a practice run to the hospital. Since Thursday I started feeling some mild contractions and experiencing some of the other symptoms that signal labor may be getting started. By Saturday morning these were continuing and I was going crazy trying to figure out if this was the real thing or not. So we packed everything up and decided to head to the hospital to get checked out. They confirmed things were getting started, but true labor may still be a few days away. So after being reassured, we headed home and finally had a good nights sleep.
This morning we checked the weather and saw that it was supposed to rain all day. This is never a good thing with a very active puppy who would have the be inside all day! So we decided to load Kona into the car and head to a dog park. This was the first time we had taken him to one and he loved it. There were lots of other dogs there and he got along with most of them really well. We were there for about an hour and he ran at his full speed almost the whole time. Unfortunately, there was also a big puddle and once that was discovered, Kona ran over and flopped down in it several times. So after the dog park, we headed to the pet store to give him a bath. This was also a new experience for him which he did not really like at first, but we were able to get him clean without destroying one of our bathrooms! He was pretty worn out and slept most of the afternoon, although he kept one eye open to see what we were up to.
So the next doctor's appointment is Tuesday. I'll keep you posted! Maybe Jason will even write a post when the big day arrives...

40 weeks - for real!
Hopefully this will be the last belly picture! So it seems there was some confusion over the actual due date. At one point we were told the 20th, but today is actually 40 weeks. So I guess today was really the due date. Either way, Makayla did not get the message because she is still not here! I've packed and repacked my hospital bag about 5 times now, each time adding at least one more thing. If she waits much longer, I may have to trade the small overnight bag in for a big dive bag to fit everything!
This morning I met a friend of mine at Starbucks who is also expecting any day now (don't worry, we both ordered decaf). We really enjoyed the look on the cashier's face when she asked when we were due and we both said, "today!" I think they were all relieved when we left without leaving anything behind...

D-Day + 2.....
Well we were really hoping to have exciting news and new pictures to share by now, but much to our disappointment, it's just another message from me...
We saw the doctor today and he said baby and I continue to look healthy, but still not much going on. So much for our full moon and rainy day theory! We talked about inducing and the doctor said that wouldn't happen until the end of next week if she doesn't come on her own by then. So we continue to wait.... But as I told Jason earlier today, this probably won't be the last time she doesn't do what we want so this may be good training!
Today was my second day trying to relax and be a lady of leisure and I am already starting to go crazy! I did work on our wedding scrapbook - yes I know we have been married for over two years but they have been a busy two years! And I kept telling Jason I would get the wedding one done before I started the baby's so I decided I better hurry up and get it done! And if it wasn't bad enough that I watched Beverly Hills 90210 in high school, I have watched 4 episodes in the last two days! Daytime TV is not that great. Someone please call me during the day....

And the waiting game begins....
So today is January 20th, 2008, and it is our due date. Unfortunately, we must have forgotten to tell Makayla! I'm still feeling pretty good and have been able to get a lot done this weekend - some shopping, clean the kitchen, clean the bathrooms, laundry, walk the dog, and some cooking. I'm looking forward to having this baby just so I can lay in bed for a day or two!
Last Friday was my last day at school and I was actually a little sad to leave my students and my classroom. One of the other teachers organized a little surprise party for the students to give me and a lot of them made really nice cards. Who knew 4th graders could still be thoughtful? After the students left, I spent a lot of time going back over the notes for the sub, making sure everything was organized, and taking home everything that I may need. Although it was hard to leave my classroom where I have spent so much time and energy, I look forward to spending my time and energy somewhere else.
As I write this, Jason is checking the Famer's Almanac to find out when the next full moon is. Apparently, there are more births during a full moon or bad weather. Well, the next full moon is at 8:35 a.m. Tuesday morning and there is also a 70% chance of rain that day. We'll keep you posted!

Like father, like daughter???
We saw the doctor again today and he said not much is going on and he won't be surprised if she is at least a week late. I think she is a little stubborn - I wonder if she got any of that from her dad... Other than probably not arriving this Sunday, her "scheduled" due date, he said everything is looking good.
I continue to feel great and even went for a 30 minute walk today. The walk was fine, it's getting my shoes on that is the hard part! I also decided that this Friday will be my last day at work, as long as everything continues to go well. It might be nice to have a few more days to myself before she arrives. Plus, I really don't want to go into labor or have my water break in front of my class!

The many uses of the belly...

Several months ago, we got a card from my family that listed some of the uses of the pregnancy belly. At the time, they all seemed silly since my belly had not gotten that big yet. As you can see, that has definately changed! It's a great cup and ceral bowl holder!
Things are still going great. I made it through another day at work and hope to be able to finish the week. We see the doctor again tomorrow so I will post more info then!

38 weeks already!

Spaz was feeling left out of the blog so I decided it was time for her first appearance!
We saw the doctor again today and everything continutes to look great and he said the baby was moving along on schedule. He still thinks she will come right around the due date or maybe a few days later. Of course he ended with, "or she may come tomorrow." I know everyone gets nervous everytime I call now so my first words are usually, "not yet!" The doctor also asked if I was ready to be done with this part and I must say that I share similar feelings that my mom had - I have really enjoyed being pregnant and other than the normal aches and pains, really have no complaints! Of course I can't wait for our little one to arrive, but I will miss my stretchy pants...

Ready for baby?
Ok, so in the last few days, we have: finished the baby's room, packed the baby's bag for the hospital, bought snacks for the hospital, cleaned out just about every closet and room in the house, had the carpets and tile cleaned, I've gotten a manicure, pedicure, haircut and brow wax, and I've even managed to write up a few weeks worth of sub plans. So I guess we are ready for the baby to come, right? I am still feeling great although moving at a slower pace than usual. Jason has been very helpful and understanding, but I don't think Kona is enjoying the much slower walks. I don't feel any different yet and it is so crazy to me that by the end of the month, we will be parents! I only hope we can live up to the great examples that raised us :) I have really enjoyed having the last two weeks off, but it's back to reality tomorrow. The next check up is Tuesday so look for an update then!

Happy New Year!
We hope you all made it through last night safely and aren't too hung-over or tired today! We spent the evening at a very nice dinner with our friends, Mike and Sarah, who are also expecting a baby in a few weeks. With a baby on the way, it's amazing what is now acceptable dinner conversation! We made it home in time to watch a few epsiodes of "Orange County Choppers" (Jason is loving the DVR) and even stayed up to watch the ball drop at midnight. (It wasn't that long ago when staying up to midnight was no big deal. Now it's a big deal if I can go the whole day without a nap!)We are looking forward to all the exciting changes we have coming up this year. What are your New Year's goals or resolutions?
