With our crazy schedules, Jason and I don't have much time to spend with Makayla in the evenings before it's time for her to go to sleep. Tonight, I found myself pretending not to know what time it was just so I could hang out with her longer!Tuesday, September 30, 2008
Hanging out with mommy

Sunday morning
Matthew's birthday party
On Saturday we went to Matthew's first birthday party (Matthew is Kelly's little boy). Makayla enjoyed playing with all the new toys at their house!
Check her out - standing all by herself!
She's checking out the other kids as they crawl and run around.
Matthew enjoys his birthday cake...
As Makayla watches closely and wonders what he is eating...
She had her first taste of cake...

All for me???

On Saturday we checked out the local Apple Harvest Festival. There were many arts and crafts booths set up but like most festivals that we go to, we really just go for the food! Makayla was more than happy to hold the precious Kettle Corn, although we may need to start thinking twice about that. With her two little teeth coming in, she may just decide to tear into the bag!

Smiley is back!
Makayla has been fighting off a few viruses the past week or so but I am happy to say that our happy baby is back! Even when she was not feeling well, she was still pretty good and again we thought about how lucky we are to have such a great little girl!
I keep trying to get a picture of her TWO little teeth, but she just isn't cooperating!
Ready to move! Makayla is getting really good at low crawling and starting to be able to pull herself up to standing. We think she will just skip crawling and start running after the cat and dog any day now!

Not enough time in the day....
Do you ever have those days where it seems like the only thing you accomplish is adding more to your "to do" list? We have been keeping ourselves very busy yet we seem to always have more that we want to do - like update the blog more often! I apologize to our regular blog checkers for the lack of updates. But like the title says, there just isn't enough time in the day!
On Saturday, Jason set up Makayla's "big girl" car seat. We tested it out in the kitchen and she seemed to be very comfy in it! It's exciting to see her getting bigger but a little sad that she has already outgrown so many of her things!
Saturday afternoon Erin came over to our house and we all went to the Virginia Scottish Games. It was interesting to see everyone walking around in kilts and the highlight was watching the Caber Toss - a competition where they were throwing telephone poles! Jason tried some haggis (you don't want to know the ingredients...) but Erin and I opted for a funnel cake!

My new classroom
Here are some pictures of my new classroom - of course there are fishy decorations wherever possible!
The building is only 1 year old and everything is so nice and new. The room is a really nice size and the students have plenty of room to move around.
We also have Smartboards in every classroom which I am quickly learning more about - they are really cool! I can be working on the computer and project it onto the screen, then I can go to the screen and write on it or navigate the web right there! Right now the second graders know way more about it than I do but I am excited to learn more!
Yesterday was the first day of school and it went pretty well. The staff has been very friendly and very helpful and I think I have a pretty good group of kids - of course it has only been two days....

In other news...
Erin is an Ironwoman!!! While most of us were enjoying a relaxing Sunday, Erin was competing in her first Ironman Triathlon. The race was a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and then a 26.2 mile run in Louisville, Kentucky. Not only did she finish, she placed 3rd in her age group, and 269th out of 1975, with a time of 11:50:57! That's right, over 11 hours of racing! She is awesome! She checks the blog often so feel free to leave a comment for her on this post. Sean is the next one to tackle the Ironman distance. Maybe Jason and I will at least knock the dust off our bikes...
We love our visitors!
This weekend Colleen and her boyfriend, Jason, came to visit. We had a great time and we are so happy to be able to see our family and friends more often!
Makayla enjoys a new "lovey" from Sean and Kristen - of course it went straight into her mouth!
Colleen gets put to work...
One last picture before they hit the road. Good-byes aren't nearly as sad now!

Saturday
We spent Saturday afternoon with the Keane Family (my friend Kelly, husband Brian and kids Julia and Matthew). I really like visiting to of course see them, and to also see new things we can do with Makayla! Here she is with her first ride on a swing - she loved it!
Don't worry Grandmas, Jason did not let go at this height...
